Description: Temasek Polytechnic signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 3 January 2012 with the Singapore Youth Flying Club (SYFC) to partner a flying programme for students pursuing the Diploma in Aviation Management & Services (AMS). The partnership allowed students to obtain their Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and strengthen their interest in pursuing a flying career, the first- of-its-kind for a diploma programme in Singapore. The MOU was signed by Mrs Lay-Tan Siok Lie, Deputy Principal, Temasek Polytechnic and COL (VOL) Andy Tan, General Manager, Singapore Youth Flying Club, in the presence of BG Hoo Cher Mou, Chief of Staff (Joint Staff) , Ministry of Defence and President, Singapore Youth Flying Club Management Committee and Mr Boo Kheng Hua, Principal & CEO, Temasek Polytechnic.

Press release. 15 June 2021. Temasek Polytechnic launches $7m Advanced Manufacturing Centre to train and support a future-ready workforce

Description: Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education, officiated the launch of Temasek Polytechnics (TP) Advanced Manufacturing Centre (TP AMC), on 18 June 2021. The TP AMC, the first such facility in an Institute of Higher Learning, is a fully integrated end-to-end manufacturing facility that features a "live" AI-enabled manufacturing line, capable of high-mix low-volume production. It also included a smart warehouse that has an automated storage and order picking system, and a nerve centre that provides real-time analysis and optimisation using data analytics. A Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) was also signed at the launch event between TP and Industry Partners Network which comprised key industry partners and trade associations such as OMRON Electronics, Fujitsu Singapore, Arcstone Pte Ltd, M8M Pte Ltd, PDS Pte Ltd and Swisslog as well as the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA) and Singapore Precision Engineering & Technology Association (SPETA). The five polytechnics also signed MOUs with the Advanced Manufacturing Training Academy (AMTA) at the event to deepen the polytechnics collective commitment to training and capability development in this field.

Press release. 15 Feb. 2012. Temasek Polytechnic and ST Kinetics develop state-of-the-art "Last-mile enabler" for the modern warfighter

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and ST Kinetics collaborated to develop a Robotic Articulated Wheel Vehicle (RawV), an unmanned combat vehicle. It was developed by three students from the Diploma of Mechatronics as part of their final year major project cum student internship programme when they were attached to ST Kinetics. This unmanned vehicle is scalable and could be used for dangerous search and rescue operations, bomb disposal, mine detection, military surveillance behind enemy lines, and also function as a logistics transporter into enemy territory to help lighten the payload carried by troops. Mrs Lay-Tan Siok Lie, Deputy Principal and Director, School of Engineering, Temasek Polytechnic and Dr Richard Kwok, Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, ST Kinetics and a member of the TP's School of Engineering Advisory Committee shared their comments on this tie-up.

Press release. 24 Oct. 2012. Criminal Investigation Department partners with Temasek Polytechnic to enhance the quality of digital forensic science in Singapore

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and the Criminal Investigation Department's (CID) Technology Crime Forensic Branch of the Singapore Police Force (SPF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 24 Oct 2012. This partnership facilitated the sharing of knowledge and skills in digital forensics and investigations between the CID and TP, enabling them to build a better understanding and an appreciation of the operational requirements, encountered in actual crime investigations. The MOU was signed by Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC), Hoong Wee Teck, Director, Criminal Investigation Department and Mrs Lee-Lim Sok Keow, Deputy Principal and Director, School of Informatics & IT, Temasek Polytechnic and witnessed by senior staff from both institutions.

Description: In line with the Government's heightened safe distancing measures, the polytechnics and ITE have made the difficult decision to cancel the graduation ceremonies which were scheduled to take place in May and July 2020. The cancellation affected some 26,000 graduands from the five polytechnics and 6,500 graduands from ITE. Institutions will make arrangements for diplomas/certificates and transcripts to be delivered to the graduands.

Press release. 27 Mar. 2017. Lao PDR public health officials train in health and nutrition practices through partnership with Temasek Foundation International and Temasek Polytechnic

Description: Some 100 public officials from schools, hospitals and health centres across Lao PDR went through a public healthcare nutrition intervention programme in Lao PDR supported by Temasek Foundation International and Temasek Polytechnic. The two-year programme, which started in 2015, was funded by Temasek Foundation International through a grant of S$223,430. These participants, in turn, used their learning to train more than 200 other health educators and school teachers on ways to design healthier and more nutritious meals in hospitals and schools. To commemorate the success of the programme, a closing ceremony was held on 23 March 2017 in Singapore, officiated by His Excellency, Associate Professor Dr Phouthone Muongpak, Vice Minister of Health, Lao PDR. Also present were Mr Benedict Cheong, Chief Executive, Temasek Foundation International and Mr Peter Lam, Principal & CEO, Temasek Polytechnic.

Description: Under the Spring Singapore's Innovation Voucher Scheme (IVS), Temasek Polytechnic's School of Applied Science helped small and medium enterprises (SMES) developed innovative ideas to stay ahead of competition. Temasek Polytechnic (TP) had developed 31 projects which were showcased at TP's School of Applied Science Project Show held on 28 March 2012. Tongkat Ali and Diabetic-friendly cheesecakes were among the projects showcased. Mr Allan Albert Teoh, founder, AllanBakes and Dr Lau Peck Ting, Managing Director, Quintech life Sciences Pte Ltd shared on the benefits of IVS. The IVS had also benefitted the local traditional medicine industry such as H.W. Traditional Medicine, Wen Ken Marketing and Tai Tong Ah Co. During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was inked between Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) and TP. Under the terms of agreement, NJUCM would provide expertise over three years to further strengthen ASc's capability in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLCP) fingerprinting. The event also saw the launch of a book titled "High performance liquid chromatography fingerprinting technology of the commonly-used traditional Chinese medicine herbs".

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's's Engineering Project Show was held on 26 July 2012 at Temasek Convention Centre. Among the 25 projects on display were "Self-inflating tyre", "Gen-Y power socket" & "Gen-Y" power plug, "Car seat aid" and "EZ paraplegic walker". The two mechatronic students behind the Self-inflating tyre which used a system that pumped up the tyres as one rode the bicycle received a Merit award at the Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award.

Opened on the same day was the TP-IBM Security Operations Centre (SOC), part of the IT Security and Forensics Hub. Mr. Boo Kheng Hua, Principal & CEO, Temasek Polytechnic and Mr David Koh, Chief Executive, Cyber Security Agency were present at the launch. From October 2015, TP would be offering the Specialist Diploma in Information Security & Forensics to working adults.

Description: Mrs Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport, officially opened the Temasek Aviation Academy (TAA) on 8 Jan 2016. The 6,000 sqm facility comprises aircraft technical training workshops, an aircraft-access training hangar with a Hawker Siddeley 700A business jet, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) development facilities, a closed-looped wind tunnel, full motion flight simulators, and a 3D modeling and simulation studio, bringing together all of TP's Aviation and Aerospace Engineering capabilities into an integrated training outfit. Mrs Teo presented certificates to 14 graduates of the 1st and 2nd runs of the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme for the Aerospace Sector during the launch of TAA.

Description: The annual Graduate Employment Survey was jointly conducted by Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic to ascertain the employment status of polytechnic graduates, approximately six months after completion of final examinations. For 2014, it was held between 1 October and 8 December and attracted a total of 15,321 respondents. The 2014 Survey showed that polytechnic graduates had healthy overall employment rates and salaries, similar to those who graduated in 2013.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic organised the Tourism Innovation Competition 2012 for 205 students from 23 Secondary Schools and ITE Colleges. It was held from 15 to 22 June 2012. A total of 47 teams attempted to provide innovative solutions to accessibility problems for the special needs visitor in Sentosa. The special needs visitor profile included the disabled, elderly, families with young children, nursing mothers, and pregnant women. Consultation was held with TP's Hospitality & Tourism Management (HTM) / Leisure Resort Management (LRM) lecturers as well as staff from Singapore Tourism Board and Sentosa Development Corporation to fine-tune proposals on their assigned areas. The participants set up 47 on-site displays for the judges to view. The top 3 teams presented their proposals to the judges and their peers on 22 June 2012. Teo Wei Xuan, Cedar Girls Secondary School and Florentino Gem Paula Villar, from Yishun Town Secondary School gave comments on their proposals.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) Culinary & Catering Management senior, Mr Poh Zhe Kai, emerged champion after beating 14 other top local culinary students across 7 institutions in the prestigious Les Amis Awards 2015 Challenge. Andre Chiang (Restaurant Andre), Joshua Brown (CUT by Wolfgang Puck), and Willin Low (Wild Rocket Restaurant) were among the panel of 12 esteemed chef judges assembled by Les Amis. Zhe Kai took home the $3,000 cash prize, as well as an all-expenses paid '10 Michelin Stars' trip to Europe. Besides that, he also had the invaluable opportunity to meet the chef-owners behind revered kitchens such as Le Petit Nice and Troisgros.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's School of Informatics and IT organised the 1st Cyber Warriors and Investigators Competition on Wednesday, 24 Oct. 2012. Sixty secondary 3 students from Bedok Green, Bedok View, Junyuan, Ngee Ann, Ping Yi and Springfield Secondary Schools took part in a 3-hour long competition and learned how to use digital forensics to solve cyber crimes. The aim of the competition was to give secondary school students an idea of what they would learn in courses such as the Diploma in Cyber & Digital Security and Diploma in Digital Forensics offered in TP.

Description: Jointly organised by Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic, the 11th Engineering Discovery event for students was designed to introduce them to engineering in a simple, engaging way. About 300 students from 13 secondary schools had the opportunity to discover the wonders of engineering and its possibilities - with a little bit of help from robots, iron man and a magician. Among the highlights was an interactive exhibition which offered a hands-on experience of some engineering projects. "Body balance coaching app" and "Memory challenge" were 2 projects exhibited by Temasek Polytechnic. Mr Seto Lok Yin of Republic Polytechnic, Prof Low Kin Huat of NTU, Mr Tan Jui Kuan of Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Mr Peter Ho Yew Chi of Hope Technik Pte Ltd delivered their respective talks/magic show/presentations. Description: Stylish protective gear for PMD users, Car-lite malls of the future and Athleisure-Inspired wedding gowns were only some of the 400 innovative projects showcased by the graduating class of TP School of Design. These projects across fashion, architecture, film, product design and communication design disciplines was held from 8 to 11 March 2019 at the Temasek Polytechnic School of Design, Block 28A. In an effort to train young minds to be responsible designers, the Design Show also included Sustainability Awards. The top three projects that address bigger issues of the world through their designs such as reducing poverty, resolving hunger and responsible consumption, received a $1,000 prize each. This year was also the inaugural run of The Pitch a new initiative that saw 11 commercially viable final-year projects spanning the range of fashion, product and communication design ideas, pitched to a panel of angel investors, commercial incubators and venture capitalists.

Press release. 15 Aug. 2016. Temasek Polytechnic and Philips Lighting to launch first connected lighting test bed in a tertiary institution in Singapore

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) collaborated with Philips Lighting to launch the first connected lighting test bed on campus. The collaboration empowered TP students, under the guidance of lecturers and Philips' engineers, to create connected lighting solutions for the campus, and develop innovative ideas in the application of smart lighting. The collaboration kicked off with a competition for TP students titled, "Light beyond illumination: the smart campus edition". The competition ran from 15 August to 31 October 2016, and the brief was for students to innovate smart lighting applications to drive greater energy efficiencies and to improve the campus learning experience. Philips Lighting invested S$100,000 to enable the top two winning ideas to be implemented on a test bed on campus. Mr Peter Lam, Principal & CEO, Temasek Polytechnic and Mr. Wee Shiang Ning, General Manager of Philips Lighting Singapore shared their comments on the collaboration.

Description: "Anil", one of the short stories written by thirty-six-year-old Ridjal Noor, was used as a preparatory text for General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) students in the UK. Ridjal, who graduated with a Diploma in Computer Engineering from Temasek Polytechnic (TP), nurtured his love for writing when he was in TP under the guidance of his communication skills lecturer, Miss Shirley Joseph, who spotted his enthusiasm and ability to write. He wrote articles for TP's School of Engineering newsletter, "Engineerrus". Ridjal, now a successful entrepreneur, said he owed his success in writing to his days at TP.

Description: To meet the rapid expansion of the early childhood education sector and increased demand for trained preschool teachers in Singapore, Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) increased the intake places for their full-time early childhood education diploma courses, from a combined total of 380 to 675 places, in the new Academic Year starting April 2016. This represented a 77 per cent increase in total intake places. Starting from January 2016, the Diploma in Early Childhood Studies (ECS) students at Temasek Polytechnic (TP) could enhance their learning experience with TP's newly-enhanced laboratory preschool called PLAY (Preshool Learning Academy). PLAY was set up in January 2011 to provide TP's ECS diploma students with opportunities for demonstration, observation, modelling, and hands-on practice.
